At a young and crucial age it is important that children have the opportunity to involve themselves in sensory activities. This experiment will provide children with the opportunity to explore oil and water in a fun and creative way.
What you will need:
- glass bottle or jar
- hot glue gun
- water
- vegetable oil
- blue food colouring
- sand
- sea shells
What you need to do:
- Help the child spoon some sand into the bottle or jar.
- Add water until half full. Then add the blue food colouring until you get the colour that you like.
- Have the child add as many shells as they would like to.
- Add vegetable oil until the bottle or jar is almost full. Leave a small space for air at the top.
- Using the hot glue gun - place the glue around the rim and put the lid on tightly.
- Turn the bottle or jar on it's side and watch the waves move. Watch the sand move gently as the waves go by.
