As facilitator's, it is important to understand that the term 'experiment' means to continuously make connections while solving problems. Children need to be provided with opportunities to experiment with a variety of materials so they can;

• have good ideas
• try out their good ideas 
• see the results of their experiment.

"Science inquiry can also emerge, with facilitation, from meaningful exploration in other curriculum domains" (Chaillé, 2008). When mixing oil and water together there are several different curriculums that can be enhanced. They are; 

• math, through measurement
• language, through communication by asking questions and sharing ideas 
• creative arts.
